From Mom and Dad’s Workplace to a Wider World: A Summer Camp for Zylox-Tonbridge Families

Zylox-Tonbridge's first residential summer camp for employees' children combined sports, educational visits, and group living in a six-day program to foster independence, curiosity, and teamwork.

This summer, the children of Zylox-Tonbridge employees began their summer break at an unusual place: Mom and Dad's workplace.

From August 4 to 9, Zylox-Tonbridge hosted its first "Yuezai" Summer Camp for employees' children. The six-day, five-night program began at the company's campus before the campers left for a week of sports, educational activities, and group living.

School holidays often require working parents to make additional childcare and activity arrangements. By offering children a structured and engaging summer experience, the camp also provided practical support for employees and their families.

Starting at Mom and Dad's Workplace

The opening program introduced the children to their new teammates and to the company where their parents work.

Colorful balloons and star-shaped decorations brightened the venue on opening day. Wearing matching camp shirts, the children raised their hands eagerly during the interactive welcome session and soon settled into a relaxed atmosphere.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Jonathon Zhong Zhao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Zylox-Tonbridge, encouraged the campers to develop teamwork, responsibility, resilience and a positive mindset.

Following the opening activities, the children toured the company showroom. The medical devices and technologies on display gave them a clearer understanding of their parents’ work and its purpose.

Seeing the products up close also made Zylox-Tonbridge's "Innovation for Quality Life" mission more tangible. The children learned that each product reflects the company's commitment to protecting health, as well as the expertise, dedication, and responsibility their parents bring to their work. Following the tour, the campers boarded the bus and left for camp.

Building Confidence Through Sport

Sports were a central part of the camp, giving the children opportunities to stay active, take on challenges, and work with others.

The program included soccer, basketball, pickleball, baseball and softball, floor curling, rock climbing, and kayaking. Team sports required communication and coordination, while rock climbing and kayaking encouraged the children to build confidence in unfamiliar situations.

On the fields and courts, a well-timed pass or successful shot was met with cheers and high-fives. At the climbing wall, the children worked their way upward one handhold at a time. In the kayaks, they learned to maintain their balance, coordinate their strokes, and steer together.

Success did not always come on the first attempt. A missed catch, an unsuccessful shot, or a kayak drifting off course became an opportunity to pause, adjust, and try again. Encouragement from teammates also helped the children understand how individual effort and mutual support contribute to shared progress.

Exploring New Ideas and Building Safety Awareness

Beyond sports, the camp combined educational visits with practical safety and first-aid sessions, encouraging the children to explore new interests while developing greater awareness of how to protect themselves and others.

At Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park, the children observed marine life up close and learned about the diversity of the natural world. At Tongji University, an artificial intelligence creative design workshop introduced them to emerging technology and encouraged them to develop their ideas through hands-on projects.

Together, the visits took the campers from the natural world to future technology. Both experiences encouraged them to ask questions, explore unfamiliar subjects, and consider new possibilities for the future.

The program also included sessions on sports injury prevention and first aid, school safety, and emergency preparedness and evacuation. These sessions helped the children understand how to respond to unexpected situations, protect themselves, seek appropriate help, and assist others when necessary.

Supporting Employees and Their Families

Over six days and five nights, the campers took part in activities ranging from sports to educational visits, gaining greater independence, forming new friendships and learning to work with others. For their parents, knowing that the children were spending part of the summer in a safe, active and well-supported environment offered reassurance and addressed a practical family need.
